Schools close early due to outage

CUMBERLAND COUNTY Gray's Creek High School and Gray's Creek Middle School let kids out at 11:30 a.m., while Gallberry Farm Elementary School released students at noon.

School officials made the decision after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole around 5 a.m. and knocked out two power circuits on Chicken Foot Road.

According to South River Electric Membership Corporation's website, the outage impacted about 3,000 members.

Some circuits were immediately restored, however, the two circuits that were directly affected by the crash are out until the pole is repositioned and all equipment is replaced.
