Officers were dispatched to a shooting call in the 1300 block of Juniper Street at 2:52 p.m. When they arrived, they found 40-year-old Javier Arreola Rodriguez shot in a parking lot.
Rodriguez was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to witnesses who spoke to police, Rodriguez was shot as he was getting out of a vehicle. The suspect fled on foot and has not been identified.
