Durham Police have charged four men in a shooting that seriously injured two young children and a man October 23.

Twenty-four-year-old John Tarver is in custody, charged with allegedly shooting the man, but not the children. Three other men - 24-year-old Arthur Clendenning, 24-year-old Tavarez Brown and 23-year-old Jaunarais King are charged with allegedly firing the shots that injured 3-year-old Anaryiion and 1-year-old Aunehstii.

Police said they believed the incident was in retaliation for another shooting on Oct. 17 where Tarver shot Brown. Brown was later treated and released for his injuries.

On October 23, Clendenning, Brown, and King allegedly drove by in a car on Driver Street firing at Tarver who was standing on the porch of a duplex. Their bullets allegedly hit the children. Police said Tarver shot back, hitting a 48-year-old man who was not involved.

The children lived with their mother on one side of the duplex and Tarver lived on the other.

Tarver was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Driver Street incident. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Oct. 17 incident. He is in Durham County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.

On Wednesday night, Clendenning turned himself in to police. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $2 million bond.

Clendenning made his first appearance in court Thursday morning, but family members of the victims told the judge they think police arrested the wrong man.
