Four men charged in shooting that wounded children

Twenty-four-year-old John Tarver is in custody, charged with allegedly shooting the man, but not the children. Three other men - 24-year-old Arthur Clendenning, 24-year-old Tavarez Brown and 23-year-old Jaunarais King are charged with allegedly firing the shots that injured 3-year-old Anaryiion and 1-year-old Aunehstii.

Police said they believed the incident was in retaliation for another shooting on Oct. 17 where Tarver shot Brown. Brown was later treated and released for his injuries.

On October 23, Clendenning, Brown, and King allegedly drove by in a car on Driver Street firing at Tarver who was standing on the porch of a duplex. Their bullets allegedly hit the children. Police said Tarver shot back, hitting a 48-year-old man who was not involved.

The children lived with their mother on one side of the duplex and Tarver lived on the other.

Tarver was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the Driver Street incident. He is in Durham County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.

Clendenning, Brown and King are all charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

On Wednesday night, Clendenning turned himself in to police. He was placed in Durham County Jail under a $2 million bond.

Clendenning made his first appearance in court Thursday morning, but family members of the victims told the judge they think police arrested the wrong man.

On Thursday night, King turned himself in to police and he was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.

Meanwhile, authorities are looking for Brown, along with the blue sedan with tinted windows that the men were last seen driving.
