Protesters plan march in Chapel Hill

CHAPEL HILL

Some people affiliated with Occupy Chapel Hill planned a march and rally at Monday's council meeting.

The group is upset that police in special tactics gear with guns drawn responded to the Nov. 13 occupation of an old car dealership.

Seven people - Ellen Crawford, 23, of Richmond, VA; Eva Jones, 22, of Chapel Hill; Daniel Regenscheit, 27, of Chapel Hill; Kassandra Ofray, 21 of Pittsboro; David Maliken, 24, of Carrboro; Monica Ganguly, 29 of Chapel Hill; Jack Jarrell, 24, of Carrboro - were arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor breaking and entering.

Jim Neal of Chapel Hill wants to know how officers communicated with those occupying the building and what led officers to think the protesters were violent.

Neal also wants to know if officers were authorized to use lethal force.

Police Chief Chris Blue says officers didn't know what the situation was when they entered the building.
