Air Force fighter unit returns from Afghanistan

SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE

The 10 F-15E Strike Eagle jets landed Friday afternoon at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. The airmen and jets from the 335th Fighter Squadron were deployed for about six months to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

Two other jets were set to return home Saturday. Air Force officials say they were delayed by mechanical issues.

The deployment represented half the squadron's 24 jets. Six other jets returned home in December.

The 335th Fighter Squadron is one of six similar units in the Air Force.

Another 300 airmen from various Seymour Johnson units are expected to return next week.
