Woman fights off alleged attacker

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

Officials said the female victim was walking near Herndon Street and Morganton Road when an unknown suspect grabbed her from behind. The suspect dragged the victim off the street and began to assault her. The woman was able to fight off her attacker, and he fled the scene on foot.

The victim received minor injuries during the attack. Detectives believe the suspect had a sexual motive for the assault.

The suspect in the assault is described as a black male with a dark complexion, between 5'10" and 6' tall with a muscular build.

He was wearing a white t-shirt wrapped around his head, a gray tank top, and dark gray or black nylon shorts at the time of the assault.

Police said they do not believe this incident is related to an assault that happened at the Cambridge Arms apartments Monday.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
