On August 18, 2012, Jose Rumildo Canales was behind the wheel when his 1995 Acura hit 35-year-old Carlos Velasquez as he was walking near his home on River Road.
Canales and Velasquez lived less than a block from each other.
Canales pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, felony hit and run, and DWI. He was sentenced to between 100 and 132 months in prison. Doyle said he will be deported to his native Honduras after serving his jail term.
