Charges filed in police shooting, murder

FAYETTEVILLE

Solomon Butler, 24, faces first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Butler is accused of killing 36-year-old Omar Walker at a home on Ruby Road June 27, and then shooting at police officers investigating the death.

Butler was shot by an officer and remains at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Police said he will be transferred into the custody of the North Carolina Department of Corrections when he's released.
