Trial set for Shaniya Davis' mother

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

Antoinette Davis is accused of selling her 5-year-old daughter to Mario McNeill in 2009 to settle a drug debt.

Davis is charged with first-degree murder, human trafficking of a child, and felony child abuse/prostitution.

Her trial is set to begin Oct. 14 and is expected to last four to six weeks.

Shaniya Davis disappeared from her mother's mobile home in Fayetteville in November 2009. Her body was found a few days later in a wooded area near the Harnett and Lee County lines.

McNeill was convicted of the girl's murder in May and sentenced to death.

Davis' attorney asked for a second attorney to help with the defense and the judge agreed.

Both the district attorney and the defense said there is no talk or offer of a plea deal. Unlike McNeill, Davis is not facing the death penalty.

Davis is being held without bond.
