Fitness Connection billing blunder makes members sweat

RALEIGH, N.C.

Members at the Fitness Connection chain of gyms found their bank accounts were drafted more than the cost of their monthly memberships.

The company said there was an error with a third party vendor they use for billing.

Fitness Connection has clubs across the country, and several locations in the Triangle. The company said 2 percent of members were impacted. A senior executive said that comes out to more than 3,000 people in the Raleigh and Texas markets.

The error affects people who have their membership fees automatically withdrawn from their bank accounts.

Gym members saw their bank accounts hit on Tuesday. One victim of the overcharge mistake from Raleigh had $2,800 taken out of her account.

"I was beyond agitated the fact that they did not get the permission to take that money out or even that large sum of money out," Lauren Seagroves said.

The corporate office is working to correct the problem and they said it should be fixed within 48 hours.

Other businesses that use the same vendor are also expecting the problem to occur.

Fitness Connection said that the affected members will receive some sort of compensation for the error.

People who have incorrectly charged should email refund@jonasfitness.com. Provide your full name, contact phone number, membership bar code, the health club you use, and the city where it's located.
