FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Police responded after the discovery of a body along a road in Fayetteville south of Fort Bragg.
Officers responded to Meharry Drive near Shaw Mill Road about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said someone called 911 after they saw the body of a black male in the wood line.
Late Tuesday night, detectives said the man has been identified as Hanee Heron Byrd, 37, of the 300 block of Hawthorne Drive.
The cause of death is still under investigation.
Detectives have also identified a person of interest, Damien Scott Boyd, 23, of the 1000 block of Vesper Lane, who was last seen with the victim about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 7.
Detectives would like to speak with Boyd about this incident. Both Byrd and Boyd were last seen leaving the area of Hawthorne Drive in a black, 2012, Ford Focus, bearing North Carolina license plate BLR-2895.
