RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Rain will continue to move through central North Carolina until late Friday.

Following the Tuesday storms, a few afternoon showers and isolated storms are possible on Wednesday. Temperature highs will be in the mid-80s.

These conditions stem from Tropical Storm Helene which formed in the Caribbean Sea.

Many parts of the ABC11 coverage should prepare for possible flooding.

Several flood warnings were issued for multiple counties, including Wake and Harnett. Flash flood warnings were also issued for numerous counties, including Halifax, Nash and Franklin.

Person County School District is closed for students on Wednesday due to flooding and dangerous road conditions. According to the district, staff will report on a 2-hour delay.

Weather Impact

Some saw and felt thunder and lightning overnight.

One of those bolts hit a home on Infiniti Lane in Southeast Raleigh off Sunnybrook Road. When firefighters got there, they discovered the attic was on fire. All occupants fortunately got out safely.

These rainy conditions stem from Tropical Storm Helene.

Roads Closed

A tree fell Wednesday morning across both lanes on Leesville Road near Ashcliff Lane in Durham. ABC11 crews said it did pull down some wires. The road is closed in both directions.

Due to flooding, the following roads are closed:

  • Banks Road near Chambers Road in south Raleigh
  • Johnson Pond Road near Bells Lake Road in Holly Springs
  • New Hill Road near Stonender Way in Holly Springs

Looking Ahead

There is a heavy rain risk late Thursday through Friday night. Rainfall will be 1 to 3 inches with some areas experiencing more. Winds could reach up to 45 mph.

There is also a tornado risk.
