As 2017 comes to a close, we are taking a look back at some of the biggest social media posts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on ABC11's platforms.

Facebook

We can't forget April the giraffe and the birth of her baby boy. The world watched in awe for months as April's pregnancy progressed at Animal Adventure Park in New York.

President Trump was inaugurated on January, 20th 2017 as the 45th President of the United States, succeeding Barack Obama.

May Day protesters in Durham marched to City Hall and read a list of demands back in May, but not before a tense moment with a determined driver.

We saw some snow back in January, and this is how many of you felt about that possibility.

Back in January, a couple who lost both of their children in a crash on Highway 17 in Pender County in 2015 announced they were expecting twins.

The body of a Fort Bragg Green Beret killed while serving in Africa was returned to North Carolina in February. This was the moment his wife saw his casket arrive at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. She gave permission to ABC11 to run this video because she wanted people to see that her husband died doing what he loved...serving his country.

It wasn't the snow we were hoping for, and the ice made for some interesting street sports back in January.

Twitter

President Trump's defense of "very fine people" within the ranks of white supremacists in Charlottesville in August angered many, including Republican politicians. But Trump has also tried to stand up for something else: the statues that the white supremacists ostensibly came to defend.

Law enforcement officials in Raleigh were disappointed and disturbed by what happened to police officers at a Raleigh restaurant. It was later reported the incident did not happen as originally described.

A Raleigh 17-year-old walked away from a crash back in March, but her body was later discovered in the woods near the crash site. This tweet was the original sent out when officials could not find Lauren Maria Jenkins.

Wakefield High School students arrived on campus in May to find a black teddy bear hanging by a noose from the building next to a sign that read "Make Wakefield TRIPP again #smartlunch".

The downtown Raleigh fire was one of the biggest stories of 2017. This video was tweeted out the night of the fire, back in March. This crane collpased near the 5-alarm fire.

Instagram

April was a hit on all social media platforms, this was one of the first photos released of April and her baby boy, Taj.

President George W. Bush was hospitalized a few times this year and they usually took to social media to thank Americans for their support.

Many call Person County the snow capital of central NC and that was certainly the case back in early December when this photo was taken.

Who can forget the super moon in early December? This photo was taken in Fuquay-Varina.

Back in April, we celebrated John Clark's 25th wedding anniversary at ABC11.
