Anyone on the market for new appliances knows it can be a very big expense. So, getting a deal is key.
And, we found some deals that all stem from open boxes.
Items that are returned after the boxes have been opened, in many cases, can still be sold and you can shop for them just by going online.
Best Buy, Sears, Lowe's, Tiger Direct, even Amazon all have sections right on their websites where you can shop and browse open box items. There's also Openboxdirect.com which sells everything from home air quality to beverage and bar items as well as appliances.
And, the savings can be significant.
On Best Buy's open box site, the original prices are listed as well as the discounts. We found a Samsung high efficiency steam front loading washer that was originally about $1,700.00, the open box price is $1,070.00, for a savings of nearly $700.00.
Sears also lists before and after prices for open box items with significant savings. For example, a white Kenmore 18 cubic ft. refrigerator listed on the site shows a regular price of about $660.00, and an open box price of about $400.00, for a savings of about $260.00.
Another feature with these open box items is to localize it. By adding your zip code, you can search through open box and in-store clearance items for the stores near you.
