A train struck a pedestrian in Mebane on Saturday

MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A person walking across railroad tracks was struck and killed by the Piedmont train Saturday in Mebane, police confirmed.

It happened around 2:19 p.m. near S. First Street and Highway 70.

Police identified the victim as Robert Emmanuel Wilson, 72, of Mebane. Officers said Wilson was attempting to cross the tracks toward West Washington Street when he was hit.

None of the 67 passengers or crew members were injured, according to Amtrak.

The train was delayed during for approximately three hours the investigation.

One year ago, on May 6, 2015, a man was killed while walking across the tracks in Mebane.
