Emotions run high at court hearing for suspected killer

HILLSBOROUGH

Kenneth White, 39, is charged with killing 21-year-old Ebony Robinson. Robinson was shot to death Friday. She was eight-months pregnant prompting investigators to take a close look at the relationship between White and Robinson.

Effie Steele spoke briefly in court Monday about her daughter, Ebony Robinson, before breaking down in tears. "If you come to the funeral tomorrow. You'll see what kind of person she was. I can't tell you. Why'd he have to shoot my Baby. Oh Lord Jesus," she said as she cried during Kenneth Whites first court appearance.

White is charged with killing Robinson whose body was found on Wrenn Road in Orange County Friday morning. Robinson, a former athlete who graduated from Durham School for The Arts was eight months pregnant. Family members say White was the father of the child.

Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall hasn't decided if he'll seek the death penalty in this case. "There's not even been a report filed at this point," Woodall said. "The sheriff's office just began investigating this. So it'll probably be several weeks before I get a final report. When I get a chance to look at that final report then a decision will be made."

Family members say White threatened to shoot Ebony in the past. The two were neighbors in Durham.

Kenneth White was ordered held without bond.

Ebony's funeral will be held at the Mount Zion Christian Church Tuesday.
