The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in /*Sanford*/.
Police say the victim and his 13-year-old cousin were inside a home on North Steele Street –when the gun went off.
The victim's father and his cousin's stepfather were in the backyard when it happened.
Officers say they are not sure who fired the weapon or how the boys acquired the gun.
