Fort Bragg Soldier dies in Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG

Private Second Class Matthew Warren Brown, 20, died Sunday morning in Asadabad, Afghanistan.

Brown, a cannon crewmember, entered the military in October 2006.

The Zelienople, Pa. native, deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in December 2007.

A memorial service for Brown was held in Afghanistan.

"The loss of Private Matthew Brown is very tragic," said Maj. James Bailey, rear detachment commander, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment. "Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his family and loved ones he has left behind."

Brown's death is under investigation.
