New charges against Kangaroo bandit

FAYETTEVILLE Anthony Pierce, 52, is believed to be the masked man who has robbed more than a dozen store clerks since April 11, 2008.

Pierce was arrested by Fayetteville Police this weekend when he attempted another store heist in the city, according to police records. He fled the scene on foot and was captured by officers in a nearby neighborhood.

Sheriff's deputies have charged Pierce with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Investigators say Pierce is responsible for the armed robbery of the Kangaroo at 1886 North Bragg Boulevard in Spring Lake, as well as the Kangaroo at 1571 McArthur Road in Fayetteville. Both crimes occurred with in minutes on May 20, 2008.

Pierce is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $115,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Tuesday.
