According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office, an officer responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence near the Hwy 64 Bypass and Hwy 33 near Tarboro.
When the deputy exited his patrol car, a male armed with a knife, reportedly approached the officer.
The officer shot the suspect, killing him.
The SBI is investigating the incident and a part of standard procedure in a officer involved shooting.
