The construction was originally set to begin Thursday. At this time, it is not known will the construction will take place.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close two of three lanes of I-540 West between U.S. 64 Business and Buffalo Road beginning Thursday at 7 p.m. until 6 a.m., Friday. Closures will resume that Friday at 7 p.m., until 6 a.m., Monday, weather permitting. The closure on the section of I-540 West is necessary for the contractor to complete punch list items for the I-540 project. NCDOT will be scheduling additional closures on I-540 to complete remaining work on the project. Motorists are reminded to stay alert, travel at non-peak times and use alternate routes, when possible.
