Man beats girlfriend with baseball bat

DURHAM, NC Police say her boyfriend attacked her in front of their 2-year-old daughter.

Police say 24-year-old Jamarlla Lynn was brutally beaten with a baseball bat --a wooden Louisville Slugger-- as the couple's toddler watched this past Friday.

Arrest warrants say her boyfriend, 22-year-old Roger Byrd hit her six to seven times on the right side of her head, breaking her jaw, her arm and leaving gashes that exposed her skull.

Lynn's neighbors recall the commotion early Friday morning when police arrested Byrd. And wish he had heeded.

"I hope never to see it again. I wish her well... I wish she never runs across this situation again," a neighbor said.

Property managers say Lynn and her daughter lived in the townhome off Penrith Drive, where the attack happened.

Byrd is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, along with misdemeanor child abuse for allegedly leaving his 2-year-old daughter home alone after the attack.

Lynn was taken to Duke Medical Center.

"I am told she is in stable condition and is recovering," Durham Police spokesperson Kammie Michael said.
