Clayton Police say 21-year-old Thomas Accardi struck 18-year-old Arnold Dyer in the head Friday night.
The incident happened in the parking lot of the store on Town Center Boulevard.
Police arrived on the scene after receiving a call to investigate a report of an assault. Officers found Dyer in the parking lot suffuring from head injuries. He was transported to WakeMed.
Police charged Accardi with malicious assault in secret and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
According to investigators, Accardi came from a hiding place, ran up behind Dyer and struck him in the head with a baseball bat.
Accardi was arrested at his home in the Cleveland area of Johnston County. He is being held in the Johnston County Jail in lieu of $100,000.00 secured bond.
