The Highway Patrol said the driver failed to stop at the checkpoint on I-40 west near mile marker 306. The driver led officers on a chase that reached speeds up to 80 miles per hour.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on New Bern Ave. in front of River Oaks Middle School, hitting a curb and a patrol car. The person then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
No one was injured and the search for the driver continues.
