The collision left a teenager in critical condition.
Authorities say a 13-year-old boy was riding his bike when a car hit him Sunday at the corner of Maple and Gate streets around 6 p.m.
The boy was taken to Duke University Medical Center.
Tim Crowder witnessed the accident.
"I was sitting at my mama in-law's house when I heard a thump," Crowder said. "I looked and I saw the boy go up in the air. The bike followed behind him."
Authorities are looking for an older model champagne Honda Accord with a shattered front windshield.
