Women hit walking dogs

DURHAM Driver David Creel told Eyewitness News he didn't see them and was shocked by what happened on Colony Road Sunday evening.

Two women were walking their dogs near the side of the road.

He says he started to clean his windshield wipers --didn't see the ladies-- and hit them and at least one of their dogs.

Both women were rushed to Duke University Medical Center. The dogs were taken for treatment by animal control.

The street is nestled in a community with homes and apartments. One of the streetlights was out in the area where the ladies were hit.

"When I got out, they were both lying flat on the ground, one on one side, one on the other side of this pole so I had them just lie there," Driver David Creel said. "It's just like somebody turns your stomach upside down."

Police say they're not sure if Creel will face any charges.
