Soldier killed in I-40 motorcycle crash

RALEIGH Police say the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta over corrected and side swiped the soldier's motorcycle around 3 p.m.

According to authorities, the soldier was thrown off of the bike.

Harold Morton Boyd III, 36, of Hope Mills, died at the hospital around 8 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators say charges against the car's driver, Anas Dahabi of Raleigh, are pending.

Crews were on the scene for several hours cleaning up the area.

Authorities had to close down all the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 between the Harrison Ave and Aviation Pkwy exits. Only the far right eastbound lane was open to traffic until around 5 p.m., when the westbound and eastbound lanes were reopened to commuters.
