Residents in the immediate area were forced to leave. Evacuations included the West Village complex, which is a mixed-use property that houses offices, businesses and condos.
Crews shut off the gas and police reopened the roads shortly before noon.

Officers closed the 600 block of W. Main Street to the 1300 block of W. Main Street, and a portion of the downtown loop from Morgan Street to Duke Street while crews repaired the line.
