Man charged with half-brother's murder

DURHAM Officers say they arrived at an apartment on Zelko Court Saturday afternoon and found 41-year-old Joseph Best shot and lying on the steps. He was taken to Duke University Hospital where he died.

Police arrested Best's half-brother, 56-year-old Lewis Scarlette, at the scene. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and was placed in the Durham County Jail under a $500,000 bond.

Police also said the charge against Scarlette would be upgraded to murder.
