Lawmakers go home without budget

RALEIGH That despite Governor Perdue's call Wednesday for them to stay and get the job done.

Rep. Jim Crawford of Granville County said leaders felt they aren't far enough along with negotiations to finish by the end of the holiday weekend.

House and Senate negotiators are trying to figure out how to raise $1 billion in new revenues.

The Legislature approved a stopgap spending plan Tuesday that lets state government operate without a final budget through July 15.
