Burlington robbery suspects arrested

BURLINGTON Burlington Police Department Staff Sergeant D.R.Murphy said a man told officers he was robbed at gunpoint.

He said that two men, one of which was armed with a semi-automatic handgun, approached him and demanded money.

Police said one of the suspects assaulted the victim by striking him on the head, and then demanded him to undress. During the attack, the victim received a minor injury, but it did not require any medical attention.

The men then stole the victim's cell phone and money.

The suspects, later identified as 19-year-old Martrell Sentorious Jeffries and 20-year-old Alonzo Lavon Scales, were last seen fleeing the scene in a grey Jeep Cherokee on Ireland Street toward Hawkins Street.

Authorities later found the Jeep parked and unoccupied behind the Iglesia Pentecostal Church on S. Ireland Street.

The Jeep had been previously reported stolen on Tuesday from a residence.

Police arrested Jeffries and Scales around 2 a.m. on Sunday at their home on Ireland Street.

Officers searched their residence and found evidence linking both of the men to the robbery.

They are charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen property.
