10-year-old drowns on NC coast

FORT FISHER Authorities said they were notified around 2:20 p.m. about three swimmers that were in distress in the waters off Fort Fisher.

Lifeguards were able to rescue Master Emanuel Carter's parents, but lost sight of him.

The Coast Guard called for several boats and a helicopter to aid in the search.

Shortly after the helicopter arrived, they found Carter face down in the surf.

Rescuers began CPR and he was taken to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
