Children receive free school supplies

DURHAM Children received backpacks stuffed with school supplies and enjoyed activities and a free lunch.

The organization also provided cell phones for families to make free calls anywhere in the U.S. and Mexico.

Last year 3,386 people participated and the Mission distributed 2,500 backpacks.

"This community event continues to be more successful each year," said Ernie C. Mills, Co-Founder and CEO of the Durham Rescue Mission. "Our goal, as always, is to provide children with the tools they need to get excited about going back to school, which is possible because of our generous sponsors and tireless volunteers."
