Teen nearly buried alive

BALD HEASD ISLAND, NC According to the Star-News of Wilmington, a 16-year-old was buried in the sand when the tide began to rush over his head.

When emergency officials arrived at the scene, they said bystanders were already digging the teen out with plastic shovels. During the rescue, someone grabbed a snorkel and gave it to the boy to help him breathe.

Officials said the snorkel probably saved the boy's life.

Emergency workers eventually lifted the teen out of the wet, packed sand and he was not seriously injured.
