'Buzz Cut Bandit' caught

FLETCHER, NC According to CNN, a retired state trooper recognized the suspect from billboards the FBI put up and media coverage about the crimes.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said in a news release Sunday that Chad E. Schaffner was arrested Saturday at a motel in the small town of Kingdom City, which is about 25 miles east of Columbia.

The 37-year-old Indianapolis man, who the media dubbed as the "Buzz Cut Bandit," was wanted on felony warrants for bank robbery, burglary, armed robbery and receiving stolen property. He also is a suspect in bank robberies in Illinois, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and four in North Carolina.

The FBI used images from surveillance video on billboards in Tennessee, Kentucky, North and South Carolina and Georgia.

According to the FBI, the robberies started in May and the most recent one was last month in Tennessee.

Although Schaffner did not harm anyone, authorities did consider him dangerous.
