Leaders dedicate new NC Cancer Hospital

CHAPEL HILL The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The hospital replaces the original building, which was originally used as a tuberculosis sanitarium. It had undergone several renovations.

The new building took four years to construct. It has triple the space for patient care with 50 inpatient beds and 72 stations to receive chemotherapy. There's also a new office building for doctors.

The first patients arrived a few weeks ago.

The two buildings cost $207 million. The General Assembly authorized $180 million for the project in 2004.
