Study reveals military needs to do more

CHAPEL HILL Families say extended deployments are taking an emotional toll.

Researchers say the wives of active-duty soldiers are more likely to suffer from depression, loneliness and burnout.

But, they also say the risk of having psychological trouble is cut nearly in half when the spouse gets support services before and during the deployment.

The study says current military programs are working; it just wants to see more of them.
