Wake school bus collides with car

RALEIGH

Raleigh police say the driver of the bus, Sharlena Height, was cited following the wreck on Ridge Road at Hampton Road.

Height has 12 years experience driving buses for Wake Schools.

During that time, her driving record shows she had no accidents. In 2001, she got a speeding ticket and was convicted of going 44 mph in a 35 mph zone.

She also was charged with having an expired registration three times from 1998 to 2006.

Wake County Schools allow no more than two tickets and one at fault crash or two at fault crashes and one ticket for a driver with ten or more years behind the wheel of a school bus.

A passenger in the car was taken to Rex Hospital, but he was not seriously injured. No other injuries were reported.

This crash is the second involving a Wake County school bus in four days. Friday Raleigh firefighter Lt. Harry "Flip" Kissinger was critically injured when he collided head-on with a school bus on Ligon Road.

He remains hospitalized at WakeMed.
