Man killed by police chase suspect laid to rest

FAYETTEVILLE John Valendra was driving on Pamalee Drive near Cain Road early Wednesday morning when a man driving a stolen Ford F-150 slammed into him.

Authorities had blocked traffic at the intersection when witnesses say Valendra pulled through the intersection on a green light and was T-boned by the speeding truck.

The 43-year-old later died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The suspect, 24-year-old Percyful Junior McIntyre, fled the scene on foot. However, he turned himself into police the next night.

McIntyre faces second degree murder changes. He is currently in jail under $265,000 bond.

Valendra, a personal trainer, was a member of Manna Church, but was headed to teach a fitness class at the Highland Presbyterian Church gym Wednesday morning.

Velandra's wife greeted family and friends at Manna Church in Fayetteville just after 10 a.m. He was laid to rest at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

His family is asking instead of flowers that donations be made to the memorial fund at Mana Church in John Velandra's name.
