Edwards popularity takes hit

RALEIGH

"Game Change" made headlines earlier this month when quotes attributed to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid came to light. The statements Reid made were in reference to then presidential candidate Barack Obama.

But the newly released book about the 2008 presidential campaign also made shocking claims involving Edwards and his wife - including details of his alleged affair with Rielle Hunter and Elizabeth Edwards' behavior towards staffers.

Before the book was out, Public Policy Polling said John Edwards "was already the record holder for the most unpopular person we've polled anywhere at any time."

But now, it says he's hit a new low. PPP's new poll shows only 15 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of him and 72 percent have a negative opinion.

Elizabeth Edwards has also seen a big decline. 46 percent of voters have a favorable opinion of her. That's down from 58 percent in May. 27 percent now see her in a negative light.
