Amtrak train collides with truck, man killed

FAYETTEVILLE The accident happened at the railroad crossing at River and State roads near the Cargill soybean plant around 5 p.m.

Eyewitnesses say the driver of a Toyota Tacoma went around the railroad stop arms after it was already down.

The train was traveling at 32 mph - but the authorized speed is 79mph - when it collided with the truck.

The driver of the Toyota was ejected from his vehicle upon impact.

None of the 159 passengers aboard the train were hurt.

Officials say Amtrak Train 89, the Palmetto, which travels between New York and Savannah, was delayed over an hour.

Further details about the accident have not been released.
