Dennis Newsom, 44, is out of jail on bond but is charged with assault on a government official and communicating threats.
Sheriff Hubert Peterkin tells ABC11 Eyewitness News that Newsom tried to hit him with his car in a parking lot. He says Newsom then jumped out of his car and threatened the Sheriff and Chief Deputy Gary Hammond.
Peterkin says he has had trouble with Newsom since he arrested him several years ago.
