Man charged with shooting brothers

WADE

Investigators were called to a home on Oak Avenue in Wade around 1 a.m. Wednesday. They found the body of 26-year-old Gary Dale Burnette with a gunshot wound. Investigators do not know if he lived in the home.

A second victim was identified as 22-year-old Raeshaun Poe of Wade. He also had a gunshot wound but was alive. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he underwent surgery, but his condition is unknown.

Detectives say the men are brothers, and it appears as if there was a disturbance inside the home that resulted in the shooting.

David Richard Aekins, 26, of Wade is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Investigators say Aekins got into an argument with the brothers before the shooting. Detectives are trying to determine the exact chain of events that led up to the shooting.

Aekins is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond on the murder charge. He will make his first court appearance Thursday.
