Wilson police got in touch with Virginia authorities who confirmed Hubbard's claim.
WAVY TV in Portsmouth reports on its website that the body of 60-year-old Beverly Gail Hubbard was found in a home on Reese Drive. Officers went to the house after a note was found in the bathroom of a Dairy Queen restaurant saying she'd been murdered. Her driver's license was attached to the note.
Police say Johnny Ray Hubbard was driving his estranged wife's car when he was arrested. He's currently being held in the Wilson County Jail without bond.
