And the incident was caught on tape.
The clerk can be seen in the video standing face-to-face with a man holding a revolver, but the clerk could not get the register open.
At one point, the suspect fired two shots.
That's when a customer in the back of the store grabbed a beer bottle and hit the suspect on the head.
"He's a hero," the clerk said. "He didn't have to do that. He could have walked right out of the store."
The suspect shot the hero several times, but he's in the hospital recovering.
Police did not catch the suspect.
