Smithfield told to boil water - again

SMITHFIELD

Botkin says total coliform bacteria was detected in water samples collected from the water system serving the Town of Smithfield in Johnston County.

The Town of Smithfield advises consumers to boil all water used for human consumption --including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and washing hands-- or use bottled water.

Botkin says vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

The town was placed under a similar advisory at the end of June. The 36 hour water crisis basically shut down all of Smithfield's restaurants.
