The Hurricanes will celebrate Brind'Amour's career with the hockey team during a retirement ceremony before its game against the Philidelphia Flyers, Feburary 18, 2011.
"There is no doubt that Rod's number belongs in the rafters of the RBC Center and February 18 will surely be a very special night for our fans and everyone connected with the Hurricanes organization," Carolina Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford said.
Brind'Amour led the team through its 2006 winning season in which the franchise won its first and only Stanley Cup Championship.
"There is no image of our franchise more memorable than that of Rod Brind'Amour, our captain, hoisting the Stanley Cup above his head, the emotions from a lifetime of hard work and dedication pouring out of him," Rutherford said.
Originally drafted into the National Hockey League in 1988, Brind'Amour played with the St. Louis Blues, the Philidelphia Flyers and was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2000.
