Mother arrested for leaving kids in heat

RALEIGH The incident happened at the Raleigh Garden Apartments on Friday night.

Police showed up at the northwest Raleigh complex around 8 p.m. after a neighbor called authorities.

They say they are grateful for the call since the children were at risk on a 92 degree night with no water and no one to look out for them.

According to court documents, police arrested 26-year-old Susanne Boone after she was told to allow the children back inside and she refused.

One neighbor, who wouldn't identify herself, says it's all a lie.

However, another says she saw the 3 and 4-year-old children at a playground crying, while the 6 and 8-year-old kids were roaming the neighborhood looking for food.

"Don't turn your back on it, because you turn your back, it don't make no sense," said neighbor Larry Adams. "That's like saying you don't care. So that was a concerned neighbor saying that they cared what happened to the kids."

Boone is facing misdemeanor child abuse charges and spent Friday night in the Wake County Jail. She was released on a $1,000 bond Saturday.

Boone's four children are now in the care of another family member according to police.

She is due in court on September 14.
