Man killed when car crashes into home

RALEIGH

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says wet conditions contributed to a fatal crash that happened overnight Friday.

The crash happened just outside the Raleigh city limits around 12:30 a.m. Authorities closed the road for several hours after the crash in order to clear the scene.

According to the Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Maximillion Bratton of Holly Springs, was traveling on Tryon road when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet road and slammed into two brick columns before slamming into a house. Bratton died at the scene.

Jonathan Doss told ABC11 Eyewitness News he has been friends with Bratton for four years.

"He always brought a good attitude to the room," Doss said. "It brightened up the room. He always had a smile. He was very respectful. I remember the first time I met him, he respected me like I'd known him forever."

Bratton's passenger, 19-year-old Ethan Herring, was rushed to WakeMed and is in critical condition.

Troopers say both men were wearing seatbelts, and no one inside the home was injured.

Doss says word of Bratton's death is traveling quickly and his friends are devastated.

"He was just a great guy," Doss said. "I'm so sorry for his family and everybody that loved him so much."
