Skeletal remains found in Nash County

NASH COUNTY

Captain P.J. Joyner said the remains were found on Quarter Road. That's a dirt road between Highway 43 and Grover Road north of Red Oak.

Joyner said an anthropologist from East Carolina University is on scene assisting with the removal of the remains which will be sent to medical examiner's office for identification and determination of the cause of death.

Detective had no information on the age or sex of the dead - which they said would have to be determined by the medical examiner.

The case is being treated as a double homicide.

Joyner said detectives did not believe the discovery is related to a series of murders involving women in nearby Edgecombe County that have been attributed to the work of a serial killer.
